2008 Newsletter

Dear Art Enthusiasts and Friends, Happy New Year 2008!

I don't know about you, but the new year has several effects on me. One, being amazed that it is 2008 when just the other day everyone was exceedingly concerned over the new millenium! Also, the new year inspires me to do more! The fresh start seems to make it feel possible. So here we go into another year in the wonderful world of art.

As I begin preparations for the summer show more and more ideas crowd in for new paintings, special talks, demos, and something wonderful for the Champagne Opening. This year some of the artists and myself are working on donating art and percentages of sales to worthwhile causes — more to come about this subject soon, plus dates and announcements.

Last season was busy and successful, thanks to all of you. Attendance at functions and art sales continue to rise, which is gratifying and challenging. Our Champagne Opening was very exciting with artist Katie Upton, creator of the much loved huge, colorful and whimsical horses, being present and she sold several pieces. It was Katie's first trip to Saratoga and she hopefully will return this coming season. Notable trainer Kiaran McLaughlin and brother Neil with wife Trish were present for the unveiling of the two oil paintings (may be seen on my home page) of Invasor, the 2006 Breeders Cup Winner, World Cup Winner in Dubai and the Horse of the Year. It was a wonderful evening with Sam the Bugler providing live music in his colors.

The McLaughlins, along with Sheila and Fred Mead owners of filly Classic Neel made it possible for me to bring a group to the stables and begin my painting of her there. This was a MOST generous kindness that pleased many attendees. The hotel provided a shuttle so there was no car parking or walking issues. Yes, the tea and scones were there for everyone to partake from the back of my van — sort of a tailgate demo!

Louise Peterson, much loved Great Dane sculpture artist, came from Colorado and gave a most entertaining power point presentation. It was her first visit to Saratoga as well and she is now completing her first equine sculpture! She wants it to be perfect and I am sure that it will be! Hopefully she will make a return visit to Saratoga. Sara Renzulli returned for a very entertaining demo in working with pastels. She created a rooster in under an hour's time with many “ooohs” and “aaaahs” to be heard. Sara is the mother of two young boys — so it is a wonder that she has time to paint at all.

The last Friday talk consisted of John and Sandy Ronan's video presentation of “Women in Racing”. It was very successful and many copies sold. So as you can see, the challenge is on to top last years show — can I do it? — yes!

Classic Neel - Limited supply of 11 x 14 giclee's on canvas availableI had another very busy Fall and my "painting in progress" came to a grinding halt. But, good news, Classic Neel is now completed and headed to her final destination at Sheila and Fred Mead's home. You can view the final piece on my "painting in progress" page on this website. Also with the kind consent of Sheila and Fred, I have some 11 x 14 giclee's on canvas available by order. I have the best intentions to keep you aware of just “some” of the pieces that I will be preparing for this season in Saratoga. They will also be on my "painting in progress" page. I have a willing and very able web master, so there is no excuse! Take a look again in a couple weeks and possibly you will have a glimpse of the show to come!

Again best wishes to all of you,
Terry
